Where The Wild Things Are
Here is the breathtaking trailer for Spike Jonze's adaptation of, one of my favourite childhood books, "Where The Wild Things Are". The use of the old Arcade Fire song "Wake Up" is inspired and gives the trailer a truly spine-tingling feel. I've always admired Spike Jonze's work with Club Homeboy, Freestylin' Magazine, Girl Skateboards, Jackass, Grand Royal, his Photography, Music Videos and some of the greatest Skate Films of all time but I've never been a fan of his Feature Films so hopefully this one will live up to my expectations.

The Beatles x Bathing Ape

Following on from The Beatles x Comme Des Garcons project comes another collaboration with the Fab Four's estate, this time with another Japanese label - A Bathing Ape. Nigo has always been a very public Beatles fanatic so the only thing surprising about this new line is the fact it took so long! For me it's the first appealing product I've seen from the Apes for a few years.Saturday, 14 November 2009

Lil Wayne "The Carter" Documentary
This looks like a fascinating documentary following a truly insane maverick. Like most small movies, of this nature, it'll probably never open in UK cinemas so looks like a long wait until the dvd.

A couple of months ago Supreme set up a temporary mini ramp in their Soho base. It's now been dismantled but here's some footage of Billy Rohan just before it was taken down...

Supreme Collection Pt.1

Having been fortunate enough to re-visit the city, several times each year, I have appeared to accumulated a sizeable collection of random items from the now legendary skate brand.

Nike Vintage Blazer Hi

Nike Sportswear have just released these stunning "vintage-style" Blazers in premium mottled leather. They also happen to come in my two favorite colourways - White/Red and White/Black. Featuring the original Blazer silhouette, with the fat swoosh, these look a whole lot nicer than the Footlocker retros from 2001.Ian Brown "Stellify"
Ian Brown may well have been the frontman in one of the greatest short-lived bands ever but his solo work continues to impress me every time he releases new material.

Supreme x Vans - Half Cabs

Here's a look at one (of two) styles of the next upcoming collaboration between Supreme & Vans Off The Wall. Taking the classic Half Cab once again, this time with an all-over checkerboard print (which is fine by me!). These remind me of the amazing BMX-Inspired Half Cabs Supreme did a few years ago. Tasty!

I miss ... Tokyo
It's been just over a year since my most recent visit to Japan & I'm really getting itchy feet to get back over there again. Unfortunately, for me, the Yen is so strong against the British Pound right now it looks as though it certainly be a while before I get a chance to take that 12 hour flight once again. Here's a small selection of pics from that last trip...

Supreme A/W 09
It's that time of year again ... Supreme unveil a teaser selection for their upcoming A/W season. The first drop will launch on Thursday 3rd September in NY/LA and Saturday 5th September in Japan. Although this is their largest preview yet there are many more amazing items they haven't revealed including some awesome collaborations. Stay tuned.DJ AM R.I.P

I've just returned from holiday to hear the sad news that DJ AM aka Adam Goldstein passed away on Friday 28th August 2009. Adam was a pioneering DJ cutting up House, Hip Hop, Rock, Indie & 80s styles & a big influence. He was also a big time sneaker head & was about to launch his own Dunk Hi for Nike (in his own words "a dream come true").
Oasis Split
After over 15 years of sibling rivalry it looks like Noel has finally had enough & called it a day on being the lynchpin of Oasis. This comes as very sad news for British music as (Love them or Hate them) Oasis were definitely one of the finest we ever had.Having been fortunate enough to see them play live 40 times, since they played Bath's Moles Club in March 94, you never quite knew what you were gonna get from an Oasis gig but it was always a proper Rock'n'Roll show for sure!
Don't look back in anger Noel ...

Deathbowl To Downtown

Having premiered in NYC back in May this movie appeared to have no sign of actually being released. Now there's a rumor it's releasing on DVD in the States mid-September so hopefully the UK will also get to see this fascinating documentary about New York City skateboarding.

New Season
Unbelievably it's the start of the new football season already - Summer seems to get shorter every year in this country! Bristol City's opening game was to Preston away and we drew 2-2 which sounded kinda unlucky considering we were 2-0 up until the 82nd minute! Looks like another 8 months of stress to look forward to then!Wednesday, 5 August 2009

MCA - Get Well Soon
Adam Yaunch - "MCA" from The Beastie Boys sadly has discovered a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland. He's due to have surgery this week so get well soon Adam. The Beasties have been firm faves of mine since Licence To Ill dropped in 1986 and are always amazing live so I'm looking forward to 2010 with the release of "Hot Sauce Committee Part 1" and possible UK dates.
Here's a great old pic of Adam with the Dalai Lama (rocking a classic Supreme coach - nice!)

UNION NYC / STUSSY NYC

Back in January the manager of Union told me of a proposed plan to turn the Spring St store into a new Stussy Chapter Store. This news finally became official today as Stussy have set a date of August 24th as the opening of the new store.
This is really sad news as Union was the original street culture store in Soho & has always been a regular stop-off for me over the past 15 years. Union opened at 172 Spring St, NY in 1989 as James Jebbia's first venture upon arriving in the city. Trading in imported lines, their own range and rare sneakers (Joe was running the Dappa Dan custom Uptowns years before anyone else jumped back on it!) Union rapidly became a downtown icon. In 2007 Union moved to a slightly larger store two doors down and cut down on the European labels to increase more upscale Japanese brands.
Stussy obviously needs a major presence in NYC and has been seriously missed since the Wooster St store's lease expired last summer but it's a shame it comes at the cost of Union. Even though he also runs Stussy NY, I guess in this economic climite even Mr Jebbia's mini-empire isn't bulletproof.

Vans - Hurry Up Already!!!

VANS VAULT CHUKKA DEL BARCO.
At the start of the year when I first saw these beauties, scheduled for Fall/Winter 09, I was really hoping that Vans would push these forward to an early Summer release as they have "June evening BBQ boats" written all over them! Sadly we have to wait & hope the UK decides to grace us with an Indian Summer in Sept/Oct.

Air Jordan III True Blue - Imminent Re-Release
Jordan fans all over the planet are getting hype for the soon to be re-re-released classics - The Air Jordan III True Blues. First released in 1988 & then retro'd in 2001 the "True Blues" have become one of the most-loved AJs ever. Rumor has it that this late August release will be restricted to Europe & Asia but when Nike/Jordan Brand smell the ca$h this is more than likely to change. The colours appear far more vivid than on the previous release - I've included pics of my beaten up old pair for comparision.

(It's Good) To Be Free
Oasis wound up their UK Summer dates in the capital the other weekend. Despite the continuous downpour both the band & the crowd were on blistering form.
I was looking forward to my first visit to the newly rebuilt Wembley (the last time I was here was for their shambolic gig in 2000) and it didn't disappoint.
It was the 40th time I've seen Oasis, since 1994, and undoubtedly one of the finest. I've never seen Liam so animated on stage - hyping the crowd & brandishing his mic stand like a trophy.
The set was an interesting mix drawing heavily on their classic debut, it was especially cool to hear "Slide Away" live for the first time in years.
